Just Say No to Frankenfish: FDA Looks To Approve Genetically Engineered Salmon

Please take action today! The hearing for approving the salmon is scheduled for Sunday, September 19, and no public comment period has been established for the approval of genetically engineered fish outside of this meeting, so this may be our only chance to oppose this dangerous approval! Only a public comment period on labeling of the GE fish has been opened.  Go to the link above, then click the first link under "Take Action" . You will find this under the "True Food Network" logo on the right of the page.

Also, we're starting a support group in Portland for people living with GMO news. Email us if you're interested. It's not activism- it's feelings. We all have to keep reading scary sad news be no-GMOs.

You've found us! We'll show you some places that sell and/or serve real food.

We live in the Greater Portland Area (Portland, Oregon) and made this website to show off places we can actually eat. We have a food sensitivity to GMO's (Genetically Modified Organisms, also called Genetically Engineered / GE food). So does everyone else but they either don't know, don't care, or don't know how to possibly avoid eating the stuff because its everywhere! We are here to help with the how-to-part by showing you restaurants and places that sell food where you can get more than a snack to tide you over. We also have links to resources and our own writings in the non-directory pages so you can find out more about GMO's. All featured restaurants, bakeries, stores, and combination establishments, both Patrons and Friends, are places where we happily eat and shop that you are certain to enjoy as well. Welcome to GMOFreePortland.com!

We help great local businesses connect with non-GMO eaters and vice versa.

Who are our Patrons?

Picture
Patrons are the non-GMO-friendly restaurants and stores who have become active in supporting us somehow.

What do Patrons do?

Picture
.
Some Patrons like this one display our sticker in the window, knowing it may generate questions. We believe that when more people know about GMO's, these establishments will benefit.

Who pays for the materials, etc.?
.

.
We pay for everything ourselves. Supportive friends have reimbursed us for specific expenses before. Also, we have Patrons who buy their own materials at cost from us, which really helps.

Who answers questions then?

Picture
We do! We leave these brochures plus cards with our URL and pager-email. It's not possible for employees of these businesses to take that on.

More ways to connect!

Facebook is great for chatting. If you try out a restaurant tell us how it was. Ask questions anyone might help answer. We use Twitter to make comments and announcements, but its mainly to help you find resources. Every single person or organization we follow is a professional we are recommending to you. In fact, follow our list. Our list is everyone we follow- so you can follow everyone we follow (and add) in one step. And when you "like" our facebook page, or "retweet" on Twitter, or link to us on either, you wouldn't believe how our web stats jump. Thank you!

Please visit the Restaurants and Stores pages to find some good food!
