We're eating drugs and chemicals. One agency controls food and drugs, so now they've become one. It's now so openly corrupt that all we have to do is draw back the curtains, and hold people steady as the truth sinks in.
It is really important now that people become informed. Things are about to change if we all keep up the work. Don't get discouraged that people don't care. They aren't aware enough to ask themselves if they care. That is about to change. This year you can
add your testimony to help the Center for Food Safety and some very active Organic and non-GMO companies' petition to the FDA for labeling. If the FDA doesn't respond with labels, this will probably be evidence in a lawsuit
or action by concerned Congresspeople which are growing in numbers despite the House Agriculture Committee's actions (
which is actually the House BIOTECH committee) that must be balanced to Represent American agriculture fairly. A very powerful action is to
help California pass a label law. This group has 100 volunteers hitting the streets with the message and if California passes a law, companies won't be able to avoid changing products nationwide to either include a GMO label or phase out GMO ingredients.
Locally, however, don't forget the person-to-person work.
We're seeing that our flyer work is succeeding at creating awareness. Now that New Seasons Market and 400 businesses nationwide are putting out flyers to encourage customers to sign the national label petition, we have a role in helping those cards get attention. We prepare people to take action by giving some education and support ahead of time.
The other thing taking place is the corruption conversation in this country. The Occupy Movement in Oregon is getting endorsed even in government. Whether you like the tents or not, the message fits with our mission: stop greedy corporations from endangering us for profit by manipulating the system to their advantage at all cost. We all know some companies in this GMO industry that deserve the attention of the Occupy Movement. That is why we give 2 minute speeches, then hand out 100 flyers in 60 minutes easily to campers, daytimers, and quite literally, tourists. Representatives Earl Blumenauer and Peter Defazio are
pushing for reform of the farm bill to stop industrial agriculture takeover by evening the playing field. They endorsed and spoke to Occupy.
We ask people one-on-one if they'd like to learn about GMOs. Whoever says "yes," gets three things:1. Our PDX Shopping Guide 2. The Institute for Responsible Technology (IRT)'s Shopping Tips
3. IRT's Health Risks brochure. Everyone needs to see thesetwo guides! You can order IRT brochures in small batches yourself, or email us for the set of 3 at no charge. The story of how these companies twisted our government into poisoning our food is so outrageous, we need a pamphlet "ice-breaker" that offers specific verifiable proof before we're tuned out like UFO talk radio.
Every person awakening to this travesty becomes a
beacon to several more without even trying. But the "reveal" isn't enough because after that, there is a natural helplessness and we see eyes glaze over. People can't just be given a list of all the foods they can't have and told to never dine out again. They need help.
Our shopping guide and the fact that we're on call as "food tech support" is how we keep people from feeling the deep desire to "unknow." If you feel that way too, this page can help. There
didn't used to be as much evidence available easily. The percentage of people that say they would like a pamphlet when asked is much higher, as is the percentage of people who know what GMOs are. Now we are putting these pamphlets in strangers' hands who want them just as fast as we can buy them. We used to do things that were time-intensive, cost us gas money, but otherwise cheap or free. Now it's $0.27 cents over and over plus bus fare- but this is THE time to pull that curtain back for as many people as we can and these packets work. So now what?
We need sponsorship from companies and individuals. We appreciate gifts from individuals who want to be out there leafletting and tabling with us. If you can't join us, be part of our team by fueling this work. Keep it going.
Our packets cost $0.27 because we buy them in bulk so we're interested in trading for advertising. Obviously we have the criterion that if you're a food retailer we can eat some of your products. A small insert is a fabulously effective form of direct advertising because it has built-in distribution and screening for receptiveness making it 100% targeted. You could even put in an insert for a cause that fits with our mission.

If you'd like to donate, just click below and give absolutely any amount you want. Think about how each dollar you donate informs four receptive people about GMOs and some of them later spread the word too.
