FYI, sorry but we do lobbying, we're not a 501-c-3, so donations aren't tax exempt.
Project Needs: Continue the work from 10/16 better than ever.
More pics on the slideshow below. We have 35+ people now devoted to working with GFP to canvass, have rallies and more. We have 2 small canvassing outings' worth of flyers from IRT and one outing's worth of our
guide. It takes a while to raise money, so we have to start now. The packets take $200 for an order of 1,000 that lasts us for 3 outings, (we gave away 300 quickly when canvassing before we knew where exactly to go) and $80 for the GFP shopping guides that go with them.
.
This donate button under the thermometer takes you to Positive Food, Inc.'s PayPal account which accepts credit cards in addition to PayPal. You're donating to volunteer work, not PFI's business. GFP can't be a non-profit (we know no board members for one thing) but we need to limit liability so we're a volunteer project of a corporation of "author-speaker-activists." (See
www.positivefoodinc.com to hire us or learn more about our company.) We donate hundreds yearly when we can- but when we're out of money the whole project stops until we get help. $5, 10, 20 all is important and appreciated help! We need $30 right after our next canvassing Saturday. Thank you all.
We've only just begun! Success report on the 10/16/11 Right2Know Rally.
We had 2 businesses support us: Food Front Cooperative Grocery was very involved, has always been wonderful to us and supports the movement generally. Theo Chocolate was our generous sponsor who we hope our advertising continues to generate customers for because they deserve it. Fair trade, Organic, and local!
We had a turnout of between 35 and 50 people. It is hard to tell because they came and went but we had over 30 people sign up form more activism! That is more important than plastering the streets one day.We made our signs and stuffed brochures right on the corner. Some people went to the other 3 corners to hand out our flyers. We marched over to Occupy and picked up a few folks there. After coming back to 6th & Yamhill we talked in the amphitheater and chanted with our signs. We went to Saturday Market as it was closing and distributed more flyers and then went back to home base. We estimate we gave 300 packets of non-GMO info!
Everyone was super and we're so proud to be in such company- and some people intend to come next time that couldn't make it today. Yes- next time. We only had 1 person beside the Nichols (founders) working on setting up the rally- it could have been so much better. Ernie and Brian work, and Mary was on a corner trying to give businesses a chance to show support for the rally for 15 days straight around 6 hours/day. Imagine what it will be like now that we have more people participating with diverse talents and experience.
That brings up the question everyone asked- where are all the businesses? After a round of applause for Theo Chocolate and Food Front, the group decided it is time to ask some hard questions. We're not going to hassle anyone and it's not a GMO-Free Portland project - but by all means- check with us to see if your favorite non-GMO-selling local company was notified and didn't respond or declined and take action. If they called it "political," they need to read www.gmoreform.org and see our food is under attack by some shady members of Congress getting biotech money and declaring war on organic and non-GMO food and natural life. Labeling is the key. If you buy up non-GMO ingredients including Organic and don't want to really get behind the political action of labeling, you're just about profit.
Watch this video and tell us you don't need to be involved!
Low turnout, volunteer no-show, 98 out of 100 businesses invited showing no support... why was this a success? Because we handed out numerous flyer packets- some of the recipients have contacted us already, and nearly all of the people who came are committed to ongoing activism. They made it a success.
